Frequently Asked Questions

  • What should I expect if I attend a church service?
On Sundays at 10:30 a.m., we all gather together for worship. Generally, we will have several hymns, prayer, an offering, and then a message from the Bible. The song portion of our service lasts for about 20 minutes. The worship music is primarily great hymns of the faith as well as some choruses. We do have special music from members of the congregation on a weekly basis. Our service lasts approximately an hour. Our services are what is commonly called “traditional.” The focus of all of our meetings is the Word of God.
  • Do you have a nursery?
Yes. Nursery is provided during Sunday morning and afternoon services for children under 3 years of age.
  • Is it okay to bring my children into the worship service?
Yes, children are welcome. Although nursery is available during Sunday morning services, some young children may find it difficult to leave their parents in an unfamiliar setting. We hope that families who begin to attend our church will come to appreciate the value of worshiping as a family, as well.
  • Which version of the Bible do you use?
We teach and preach from the King James Bible.
  • What type of music should I expect to hear?
We sing many of the traditional hymns and songs of the faith. While we would not describe our music as formal, we avoid contemporary music. We regularly sing songs such as “Amazing Grace,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” “There is Power in the Blood,” and “To God Be the Glory.”
  • Is there a dress code at your church?
There is no specific dress code for those attending our service. We do, however, teach and preach that our dress should honor the Lord and follow the Bible.
  • How big is Avoca Bible Church?
Right now, we have anywhere from 150 to 200 people who attend on Sunday morning.
  • What type of preaching will I hear?
Preaching is the center of the worship service. We believe that expository, verse-by-verse preaching is the most effective method of teaching and preaching the Word of God.
  • Do you have a teen program?
We do have a program for teens. Our Youth Group is available for young people starting in 7th grade to college & career ages. Visit our “Ministries” tab to learn more about our Youth Group.
